HOW TO GET BACK TO BASICS

Written by , Posted in Clarity, Happiness, Inspiration, Mind

IMG_7499

Hi! I’m back. Back from vacation and now Back to Basics! We sometimes complicate the simplest of situations with our own self-importance, aka the ego. Everyday you have the choice of either waking up to be bright with a day full of miracles – or you can choose to wake up full of stress with a day full of complaints and struggles. Why even think to choose the latter? Don’t you deserve the very best? When all else fails, simplify! Get back to basics. Don’t point out all the wrongs, point out all the rights, only the best.

How to get back to basics:

Forgive, constantly! Not everyone and everything will go your way. Don’t trip up on angry people, difficult situations. Understand that every individual has a reason for why they are the way they are and then keep it moving. It’s not your job to analyze and criticize. Work on self-reflection so much so that you have no time to criticize others. Forget bad situations, keep it moving.

Be present! Learn to be where you are when you are there. Don’t worry about tomorrow, don’t think about yesterday. What is now in front of you is all that matters, take in every moment.

Spend ample time with nature. What I love about being at the beach (salty hair & flowers in the air!) is that it is so naturally healing. The breeze, the salty water, the open air – all amazing for your mind, body.

Body. Take care of it! There is no shame in taking care of your face, your body, it is the carrier of your soul. Revitalizing your body everyday is so important. Stretch, work out, meditate, get a massage, do an at-home DIY facial. Do what works for you. Stay healthy.

Let go of clutter and noise. A huge part of getting back to basics is to forget the unnecessary. Sometimes, that means giving yourself space from situations or even people who may emotionally drain you, and are energetically negative. Spend time with uplifters, high thinkers, the funny- the best types to be around. “With every encounter, we exchange information and energy, and we come away changed just a little bit.” -Deepak Chopra

Simplify!

BIRD OF PARADISE

Written by , Posted in Body, Confidence, Strength

yoga bird of paradise sunina

Bird of Paradise is a great move to improve flexibility, open the hips, strengthen the legs, and stretch the groins.

A: Start with legs hip width apart, squat down low and stick your butt out. Swing the left hand behind the back, place the right hand underneath the right thigh, interlace hands as close to the base of your back as you can, you’re binded! Shift all of your weight into the left heel of the foot, tighten the core, lightly pick up the right foot &  feel it become weightless.

B: Inhale, lift up the entire upper body with your weightless right foot. Left leg is locked and energized with balance. Take your shoulders back as much as possible without releasing the bind.

C: Exhale, straighten the right leg and point the toes.

xx love & light.

Yogini thought of the day: Get started today, even if you feel like you suck, HEHE. Don’t be afraid to put it out there, especially if they are good vibes, express yourself! Who cares what anyone else thinks:) No project or venture is too big or too small. Start now.

GIRL, CTFD.

Written by , Posted in Attractive Energy, Beauty, Body, Clarity, Happiness, Inner Purity, Inspiration, Love, Mind, Sexy Tone, Yoga, You

Girl, CTFD, ‘calm the f*** down. I like this advice. It’s straight to the point and easy to apply immediately.

Although the original source of this advice is from a parenting article, I thought it was a great tool to apply for anyone, anytime. There are only two steps, 1) CTFD, and 2) CTFD.

Release all worries, judgements, limiting thoughts, pointed fingers, lack of love. And if anything stresses you, remember to simply let it go right away! It is the way to inner peace and true beauty. Otherwise, you are holding onto thought poisons- literally. Understand where your misleading thought patterns come from– I will share an excerpt from my reading this morning to help you understand:

I am never upset for the reason I think because I am constantly trying to justify my thoughts. I am constantly trying to make them true. I make all things my enemies, so that my anger is justified and my attacks are warranted. I have not realized how much I have misused everything I see by assigning this role to it. I have done this to defend a thought system that has hurt me, and that I no longer want. I am willing to let it go.

Cue Frozen’s Let It Go ~ and CTFD. Start every Monday with a cleansed mind:)

xx love & light.

NAVASANA

Written by , Posted in Beauty, Body, Mind, Strength, Sunina, Yoga, You

sunina navasana Mindfully working your core is the most essential part of any yoga practice or workout. It is from your core stability and strength that moves you with purpose.

Boat Pose or Navasana! I am doing an arm assisted version because I love how it feels in my hamstrings when the legs are up, the abs are completely engaged in this posture. Here’s how to do it: Deep inhale, with straight legs lift the legs up as you engage the core, back is straight, spine is tall, balance on the sits bones as you rise high. Feel as if your rib cage is pulling up away from your hips, lift the hands up by your sides, or as shown, grab the feet, flex the feet. Heart is open, chest is proud. Stay for 5 to 8 breaths.

xx love & light.

Yogini thought of the day, “how can I be a blessing to the world?”

WARRIOR 3

Written by , Posted in Body, Clarity, Confidence, Mind, Strength, Yoga, You

IMG_6851

Warrior 3 or Virabhadrasana 3 is a great balancing posture. It is great as a chest opener, leg strengthener. The full body is engaged in this movement.

Here’s how to do it: Stand tall in Tadasana, Mountain Pose. Bring the left knee in towards the chest, embrace the core as you extend the leg backwards, flexing the feet. The chest lifts as you lean forwards gazing to the horizon. Engage the core, both legs and feet energized. Lift the toes of the standing leg to get out of clenching the toes. The weight is in the heel of the standing foot. Airplane the arms beside you, fierce focus. Stay for 5 to 8 breaths, switch sides. A nice pose to try afterwards is Tree Pose.

all you need is love & light. xx

ALWAYS READY

Written by , Posted in Body, Happiness, Inspiration, Yoga, You

Always ready! Never an excuse to skip out on self-care/workout. Here are a few answers to common excuses that stop you from getting your sweat session on:

I forgot my lock. Trust that no one is going to steal your stuff. Keep your phone and wallet by your side.

I’m not wearing workout clothes. Take the stairs, speed walk, tuck in your tummy all day long. Do kegal workouts at your desk (haha). Drop and do squats anywhere. Wear workout leggings that can dual as normal every day pants, and a tank top under whatever you are wearing and you are always ready for an impromptu Yoga or Pilates session. Or… just bring workout clothes with you!

I will smell. Carry cleansing cloths and a mini atomizer of your favorite perfume. For long-term commitment, find a studio or gym with showers as your home base for workouts.

My makeup will run. Carry a stick concealer and gloss with you. Wear waterproof eye makeup in the morning.

I don’t have time. One hour of yoga is only 4 percent of your day. No one can convince you to put your health first but yourself. Don’t burn out and let stress creep up on you. Maintain good health everyday!

Happy Monday.

xx love & light.

BOUND ARCHER POSE

Written by , Posted in Yoga

SUNINA_ARCHER Bound Archer Pose or Baddha Akarna Dhanurasana! This is a deep hamstring, groin, and hip flexor stretch. It strengthens the arms and legs, stretches the chest and opens up the heart. Breathe through this challenging pose for 3 to 5 breaths.

Here’s how to do it: Sit in dandasana, with both legs extended out in front of you. Hinge forwards, lift your right leg up to the sky as you use your hands to assist the leg up and behind your right shoulder. Interlace the hands at the base of your back. Straighten the leg, lengthen the spine, gaze forwards. Be sure to sit the tailbone all the way down to the ground staying even in the hips (not leaning over more to one side than the other). Breathe! Feel the stretch, amazing.

HALF FROG POSE

Written by , Posted in Body, Self-Care, Yoga

sunina_quads_half_frog_pose Half Frog Pose or Ardha Bhekasana! This is an amazing quads stretch for everyone especially for runners! There is so much tension in that hardly stretched area for many. Feel the stretch in your chest, shoulders, and thighs. This is a great pose to do as soon as you wake up in the morning especially if you sleep on your tummy.

Here’s how to do it: Lay on your belly, energize both legs. Inhale, bend the right knee in towards your tailbone, grab the feet with the right arm, stretch it down towards the right hip bone, exhale. Stay here for 5 breaths, gently release and switch legs.

xx love & light.

HAPPY FRIDAY ♡ GRATEFUL

Written by , Posted in Yoga

Feeling super blessed. Happy Friday! Thank you for reading my blog. I appreciate every click, yesterday’s post was the best ever in numbers, so thank you♡ I hope that my pure intentions to cleanse, uplift, and inspire movement are felt with each word of every post.

Every single wish that has come true so far is a blessing. I am grateful for all that I have now. I’ve been trying very hard to tame my natural impatience, and just let things unravel naturally. Can’t want for a few things this month, and many more this year. So lucky to have met everyone I have so far, up until just a few minutes ago(!), within the fit/yoga community.

ECSTATIC, but playing calm.

Count your blessings today, and everyday!

KNEES-TO-CHEST POSE

Written by , Posted in Love, Self-Care, Yoga

Knees-to-chest pose or Apanasana! This is a cool down pose to help you relax and focus on your breathing. It eases back tension and helps digestion problems. It’s also a great pose to do right before bed to help you get into sleep mode.

Here’s how to do the pose: Lay flat on your back, bend your knees and hug them into your chest, criss cross at your ankles for a deeper stretch. Relax and focus on your breath. Rock from left to right, front to back for a light back massage. Stay for 72 seconds or more for full benefits of the pose.
