In 2011, I bought this beautiful corset with boning detail with the full intention to use it as a primary waist-loss (not weight loss ūüôā solution. I did it for a total of 1 hour and never looked at it again. I wasn’t so turned on by how hard it was to get into and how much of an effort waist training is.

Recently, I’ve gotten engaged and I wanted to incorporate some sort of waist training back into my ‘bridal body beauty plan’, so I dug through the lingerie section of my closet and found this at the very bottom- ahhh. So pretty!¬†Now with a renewed perception, and some adjustments I tried waist training again for 10 days. Here is my recent experience and tips:

  • It minimizes your appetite, so you do not overeat.
  • It’s recommended you wear this corset for 4 to 6 hours a day. I opted for 3 a day- much more manageable so I do not have to actually wear it out.
  • Try not have it on too tight to start, keep it slightly tight but not so much so that you feel entrapped (scary feeling¬†if you tend towards feeling claustrophobic!)
  • Get the type of corset that has boning, it is much more structured for a better fit.
  • Waist-training is not a primary source of losing weight or waist:) What really works? SLT! Maybe I am biased but working out is what will get you the results, waist training is a gradual, time-consuming process.
  • You have to be committed to win it! What are your goals? Be precise before you start. Measure yourself. Work out, eat healthy. Waist training is not the primary solution:)

This is not only about how many inches you can lose off your waist or how tiny you can make it. It is about your empowerment as a woman to have the curvatures you love. I was reminded of it when I saw how beautiful, feminine, empowered, and confident CINDERELLA (Lily James) looked in a corseted gown.

In other news, after spending the Winter isolated, I’ve come full circle and was reminded of how grateful I am of EVERYTHING the world has to offer. This includes this once in a lifetime period that¬†I am living in engagement bliss- so I should be sharing my moments and my love for self-care for the mind, body, beauty. I’ve created a hashtag where I will be sharing some of my self-care efforts to feel my best in time for my big day! Very excited, stay in the light xo

IMG_8980 We hear so much about how the sun is damaging, hide from the sun, etc. etc! Then Winter in New York comes along, and all you can dream about is the sun in your face, and that¬†salt water taste. The cold weather has just as much damaging effects if not more on your mind, body, beauty (skin). I recently went away with my fianc√© to Grand Cayman to ‘change the forecast’ last weekend, and WOW. You could FEEL the therapeutic effects and natural remedies of Mother Earth just getting to work on you right away. We are naturally made of what’s found in sea¬†water (magnesium), so when we spend time in it we become balanced in our mind, in how we feel in our bodies, and in the glow of our skin. As soon as I got¬†back home, I hit a few health food stores to get a few things to incorporate into my skincare regimen: 100% pure sea salt, avocados, lemons, manuka honey, and pure aloe.

Here’s one at-home toner I made so that I can spritz at anytime in case I get serious beach nostalgia: mix 4 ounces of warm water with a tablespoon of sea salt. Allow the sea salt to dissipate, then¬†apply to skin as a toner. (I use a container with a pump so its easy to spritz).

Here are three things to never do when you are working towards manifestation. Work on your imagination!

#1 Never place your head in any thoughts/scenarios you would not want to materialize. AKA stop worrying. Like if you love scuba diving, stop thinking about sharks lurking around ready to eat you. All you are doing is attracting a higher probability of it happening to you.

#2 Never contaminate your thoughts by limiting yourself to what you are used to or how things used to be like. You are then automatically placing yourself and your potential reality into a box which never really changes or evolves. Therefore, keeping you in the same place. Change your story- change your imagination.

#3 Never allow someone else’s ideals be placed into your imagination. Like, maybe when you were younger your parents wanted you to be a certain way and so they plant seeds in your head to be a doctor or something. Or your gf/bf, spouse says you should be doing this/that.. say ok, alright. And then do what you want, imagine what you want.

Every time I fly 5+ hours, I make sure to have a very select few beauty essentials on board with me in my carry on. It is so important to me to stay hydrated, and to feel uplifted. Here are 5 beauty essentials that ensure me to meet those goals:

1) Honey sheet mask by Real Nature. I get them at the Face Shop in Ktown, NYC. Sheet masks originated in South Korea but you can find them just about everywhere now! Check out Sephora for a hydrating kind.

6 Things to do while you are hanging out in downward facing dog split (right leg):

  1. Flex your feet and wiggle your toes – yogi toes!
  2. Place your mind and energy in the entire right side of your body, saturate the entire right side body with breath, stretch from your fingers all the way through your torso, up to the toes!
  3. Push the floor away, all of your body weight is pushed up towards the hips and grounded down through your left heel towards the floor.
  4. Breathe with gratitude.
  5. Let your head hang, no energy in the crown of your head.
  6. Close your eyes, and visualize a cleansed mind.

Hi! I’m back. Back from vacation and now Back to Basics! We sometimes complicate the simplest of situations with our own self-importance, aka the ego.¬†Everyday you have the choice of either¬†waking up to be bright with a day full of miracles – or you can choose to wake up full of stress with a day full of complaints and¬†struggles. Why even think to choose the latter? Don’t¬†you deserve the very best? When all else fails, simplify! Get back to basics.¬†Don’t point out all the wrongs, point out all the rights, only the best.

How to get back to basics:

Forgive, constantly! Not everyone and everything will go your way. Don’t trip up on angry people, difficult situations. Understand that every individual has a reason for why they are the way they are and then keep it moving. It’s not your job to analyze and criticize. Work on self-reflection¬†so much so that you have no time to criticize others. Forget bad situations, keep it moving.

Be present! Learn to be where you are when you are there. Don’t worry about tomorrow, don’t think about yesterday. What is now in front of you is all that matters, take in every moment.

Spend ample time with nature. What I love about being at the beach (salty hair & flowers in the air!) is that it is so naturally healing. The breeze, the salty water, the open air Рall amazing for your mind, body.

Body. Take care of it! There is no shame in taking care of your face, your body, it is the carrier of your soul. Revitalizing your body everyday is so important. Stretch, work out, meditate, get a massage, do an at-home DIY facial. Do what works for you. Stay healthy.

Let go of clutter and noise. A huge part of getting back to basics is to forget the unnecessary. Sometimes, that means giving yourself space from situations or even people who may emotionally drain you, and are energetically negative. Spend time¬†with uplifters, high thinkers,¬†the funny- the best types to be around. “With every encounter, we exchange information and energy, and we come away changed just a little bit.” -Deepak Chopra

sunina_open Worry free is the way to be. There is no point in searching the past, no point in worrying about the future. Always know that the best is yet to come. That is all. Clear your mind of the pointless energy you are wasting on worrying. Return to the present moment, to here and now. That is where you discover and re-discover your true self, your true being Рright at the center of your soul. Know who you are, the rest are just details to the bigger picture.

How to be worry-free:

Stop overthinking¬†–¬†¬†Stop thinking! When you catch yourself, turn back up to lightness. Think lightly, tread lightly. Be the light.

Breathe – Inhale for 5, 4, 3, 2 – Exhale for 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Focus on your breath to bring you back to the present moment. That is all you have, all you need.

Be grateful – count your blessings! Each one counts, say it out loud and it brings more feelings of gratitude so you can forget what you feel like you need.

DSC_0044 Last night, right before sunset I was walking down the west side highway with friends and the conversation came up about the desire for a more bubbly womanly figure. I was asked how do you do it? I’m no Kardashian! But I do have my set of beliefs on how to get to where you want. And yes, I do believe you can have the exact body you want. But you’ve got to believe first! Here are the top 3 things you need to know:

1) MOVEMENT – you’ve got to move it to lose it, yes. But- you don’t want to lose your butt and boobs! Be mindful of keeping a good balance of workouts — too much cardio or too much strength training will give you a specific to that workout¬†look. Always stay balanced, and don’t over do just one type of work out.. That is why I find SLT and Yoga as the perfect balance.

2) YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT – truly! Eat well. Eat super foods. Don’t deprive yourself of GOOD healthy food. Eat right, but also don’t deprive yourself of things you love, like pizza. Eat pizza. Be happy.

3) MIND – the mind conquers all. I 100% believe that my affirmations are what makes my body balanced.¬†I have a set of 10 to 15 affirmations specific to how I like my body to look and feel. Example: “I am so grateful for my beautifully¬†shaped figure.”

One-Legged King Pigeon

DSC_0079 Energize and refresh your body with the One-Legged King Pigeon Pose!

Stretches the thighs, groins, psoas, abdominals, chest, shoulders, neck, and back. It stimulates the abdominals, opens the hips, shoulders, and chest.

The key is to move slowly. Start at downward facing dog, lift the right leg up to downward facing dog split, right knee forwards to the right wrist. Drop the shin down to be parallel with the mat, hips are square to the front and you are lifted and even in the hips. Extend the left leg all the way back behind you. Slowly lift the back leg up, grab a hold of your foot with your left hand/arm.

Amazing counter poses to try after:
Child’s Pose, Big Toe Pose, Forward Fold, Seated Forward Fold, Hero Pose!

Seated forward fold! Also great for blood circulation. It helps to balance the nerves, calm the mind.

Sit tall in a seated position. Lift up in the ribcage. Deep inhale, exhale fold all the way over. Bend the knees if you have to in order to reach the toes. Lengthening the spine then dropping the crown of the head is of utmost importance here.

yoga DSC_0368 Side Plank Variation! Great for overall body balance, obliques, strength, core, leg stretch, chest opener, and hamstring stretch. It is also a great hip opener.

Get into a side plank, tuck in the tailbone, open up the chest, lift the hips up high, find balance here first, then slowly lift the top leg up, bend the knee and bring them into the chest as you take your peace fingers and interlace them to the big toe. Straighten the leg, lift the hips up higher, and breathe.

yoga bird of paradise sunina

Bird of Paradise is a great move to improve flexibility, open the hips, strengthen the legs, and stretch the groins.

A: Start with legs hip width apart, squat down low and stick your butt out. Swing the left hand behind the back, place the right hand underneath the right thigh, interlace hands as close to the base of your back as you can, you’re binded! Shift all of your weight into the left heel of the foot, tighten the core, lightly pick up the right foot & ¬†feel it¬†become weightless.

B: Inhale, lift up the entire upper body with your weightless right foot. Left leg is locked and energized with balance. Take your shoulders back as much as possible without releasing the bind.

C: Exhale, straighten the right leg and point the toes.

It’s so simple but sometimes we¬†complicate things! Love your story, if you don’t- change the words, change the outcome by changing what you do right now at this very moment. Let go of all the excuses, let go of the same old story you keep telling yourself- ‘I’m not good enough.. not talented enough.. not pretty enough.’ Let go of that struggle! Your function in life is to be happy. If you are not happy, you are not on the correct course. Everyone has a course, a purpose, if you are not fulfilling it, you will know it because you will be sad. It is your birthright to be happy. Let go of the walls you put up, and fight through the inner ego that tells you ‘NO’. Release the ‘I can’t’ and welcome the ‘I will’.

Motivation for the week to MOVE EASY!

Though I was sore from Bikram the day before, I went again anyway.. the poses which were not as challenging were so much harder to flow into when you are sore. I constantly had to convince my mind I could do it. After a little while I realized, the less I think¬†the easier it was to move in a more free and fluid way. Don’t worry about stretching or pulling or pushing to get the pose ‘right‘. Stop struggling, and just flow. Wherever you are at is exactly where you are meant¬†to be at this very moment. That affirmation itself is very freeing. Don’t worry about where you were or where you are supposed to be. Don’t inundate yourself with worries of the future. Where you are is exactly where you are supposed to be. Be free, move easy. Stop thinking-¬†just do (on & off the mat). And just like that I was able to move happily through each pose rather than struggling¬†through sore muscles.
